This morning I pointed out to my Husband that for the last 10 days he’s spent 14 hours a day sitting on his butt. Did he not think he ought to get a job? This caused much amusement to the family gathered in the farm yard, as My husband has been sat in his tractor, cultivating and sewing seed for 14 straight hours a day, Setting off at 8.30 in the morning and returning home between 10pm and 11pm every night, with just a dog for company. The only help I have been able to give him is massaging his shoulder when he comes home and by making all his meals and driving them out to whichever field he happens to be in. However my meals are starting to turn in to a bit of a farce….
Day 1 lunch: ham and salad sandwich, tea and homemade fruit cake.
Dinner: roast chicken dinner, gravy (in a flask), juice and chocolate mouse.
Day 2 lunch: egg wrap, fruit, tea and homemade fruit cake
Dinner: chicken stew (in a flask), tea, bakewell tarts
So far so good……
Day 9 lunch: cheese and salad sandwich, raspberries, Tea and banana cake…I forgot the milk for the tea. I’m ok, I drink black tea…unfortunately Hubby doesn’t, but he’s getting used to it! I also dropped the bag and broke the flask.
Dinner: Pizza, juice and cupcake…..I was rushing out to a meeting and needed something quick, so I opened up a cook book and noticed I could make and cook a pizza in 30 mins. It wasn’t until the pizza was in the oven and I was clearing the book away, that I noticed the dough is meant to rest and rise for 2.5 hrs before cooking. Ooops! Apparently the flavour was great, if a little tough!
Day 10 lunch: ham and salad sandwiches, blueberries, tea and chocolate roll….I forgot the cups and we had to share the drinking of tea out of a Tupperware box. I also forgot to remove the leftover blueberries from the dashboard of the Land rover before setting off across the bumpy field. They shot off and landed all over the dog on the passenger seat, much to her surprise.
Dinner: Baked potato with seasoned chicken and asparagus, juice and ginger cake with custard….I forgot forks so dinner was eaten with spoons, we also ran out of diluting juice and had to resort to using the stuff we’d hidden in the back of the cupboard that nobody likes. I forgot the thermal cover for the flask and so the custard was cold.
Throughout it all, my husband hasn’t complained once. He merely shakes his head in amusement as he drinks tea from a sandwich box or eats his dinner with a spoon. With a bit of luck he’ll be finished in a few days…….It all starts again come harvest, Though I way invest in a proper picnic set with a check list to make sure I don’t forget anything vital.

ha ha ha !! LOVE the story.. and was able to envision the dog with the big surprise.. and you excited about your pizza, yet forgetting the rising time ( I have done this too!)
Love your sweet rugs!! Keep on writing! I want to hear more stories.
Peace and light

Thank you Elissa Joy. My life is a flowing stream of mishaps. There’ll be many more before this month is through lol xx
What a delight you are! I could see it all and have a broad smile on my face. :)
Thank you Renita, I can see the smile, lol. xx
I think you do a lot for your husband, you seem especially good at making him smile during those long days. Keep up the good work.
Laughed out loud. It is great to read that someone else has the same sort of weird and random life that I lead. It is something to do with living in south west Scotland I think. It is a wonderful place, full of interesting and slightly wacky folk – love it!!
Thanks Pauline, do you think it has to do with the water supply from Jacobs Ladder to the farm, after all you lived there long enough and my wackyness has nothing on you lol.
