What is the January Wall?
The New Year is by and the Kids are back to school. The normal routine starts again…. But something doesn’t sit right…???
This is the time of year when everything is at its quietest on the business front, so you should be making the most of this opportunity to plan for the year ahead. Looking at promoting the business, what to make for the coming year, new designs, making more sales…but I can’t. I’ve hit the January wall and I’m stuck. I can’t see ways round it, over it or under it.
I’m a designer and I need to be designing, but I don’t know what people are after, as to what will sell. There are so many new types of crafts, and many more people crafting from home, yet less money available for luxury items. So what do I do?
Time to sit down and write ‘The list’
What is my Business?
Soft furnishings, bespoke children’s rugs and Eco friendly kitboxes
What do I want to do?
Design more kit boxes, create more arty wall hangings find some soft furnishing jobs
How am I going to get there?
This one is going to take a little longer to answer, and will involve asking for other peoples input (Hubby in particular).
Where do I want to be in 5yrs?
This one is easy. I would like to be in my own work
shop, creating and designing wall art, making rugs and soft furnishings. With new ideas for my kit boxes.
What is the hardest part?
Focusing on one thing. This blog has been particularly testing today, so my willingness to fetch logs for the fire, walking the dog, sneaking looks at facebook and general procrastination has been noted!
Well time to go make dinner and then sit down with Mark to go through my questions and work out what I need to be doing next. Hopefully my wall will appear a little smaller tomorrow.

Good evaluation questions, Gina. Hope you and Mark have time together soon to get those design wheels going.
Thank you Bonnie. The wheels are slowly starting to turn….A little more chocolate power needed I think lol xx
January is a great time to sit down and plan for the year ahead. It can be so overwhelming though to think of the next 12 months ahead when we’ve just got over the Christmas break and the kids are back at school and we’ve just about got back into the business mindset. I hope the exercise we did at the mumpreneurs networking meeting helped to get the business juices going again. You’ll have to let me know how you’re getting on when I see you next. In the meantime, keep going – your future looks magical xx
Heather, Thank you for your lovely comments. I found the meeting very helpful thank you. I’m starting to focus better now.
